Wayne Rooney may be deployed in a more advanced attacking role under Jose Mourinho.
That is the opinion of The Guardian who report that the 30-year-old is willing to play wherever the new Red Devils boss wants him to.
Rooney moved to a deeper midfield passing role late last season under Louis van Gaal while operating in a similar position for England at Euro2016.
However, Mourinho does not see Rooney as a midfielder and is expected to see him play in a more attacking position, which suggests he may have to battle it out with new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and teenage sensation Marcus Rashford for a starting spot.
It is also understood that Rooney has been informed by Mourinho that he will retain the United captaincy for the 2016/17 season.
