Punto Pelota says the relationship between the coach and president Florentino Perez remains as strong as ever and after face-to-face talks on the weekend it was agreed his time at Real had come to an end.
Mourinho is "sad" to leave Real after a dismal season, but accepts it is the right decision for all concerned.
With Chelsea waiting with open arms, Mourinho expects there to be no compo demand from Perez. The coach signed a new contract extension earlier this season, but there was a gentlemen's agreement between the two that he would be allowed a clean break this summer if things didn't work out.
Perez will hold a media conference this week to confirm Mourinho's departure - and to defend his controversial reign.
