Motherwell progress in Europa League

Motherwell avoided a European upset to ease past Welsh minnows Llanelli 3-0 on the night, and 3-1 on overall aggregate. A John Sutton double and Jamie Murphy's goal tonight proved decisive in Wales.

Motherwell will now meet KS Flamurtari in the next round, and boss Jim Gannon said: "We are pleased to see our training has had an influence. We've restored professional pride after the defeat last week.

"I think we needed to up our game and show more courage and quality with better quality. We got into good positions in wide areas.

"The lads have been working hard and we saw the benefits of that. I don't know much about the Albanian side we face next.

"We've been focusing on this game. There will be a lack of information for us against them, but we will take a lot out of this game and improved massively in this second leg.

"We are now in the next round of the Europa League, we can tease the new players a little earlier. But for all our strengths, our weaknesses remain apparent. There's still improvements needed."

The ex-Stockport boss felt his players weren't protected against the Welsh part-timers.

He added: "We've run out of ice. I just was disappointed the referee, he should protect his players and ensure livelihood is not endangered.

"There were a lot of heavy challenges. They upped their tempo and tried stamp their aggression on the game."
