Dean Saunders does not believe that the overall strength of the current Liverpool squad is good enough to challenge for titles.
Liverpool seemed like they would finally be able to mount a genuine bid for the Premier League title following a fine start to the season but having endured a terrible run of form over the last two months, the Reds will now merely contest for a place in the top four for the remainder of the campaign.
Ex-striker Saunders has understandably not been left too impressed with Liverpool's displays in recent matches and he has now questioned the poor quality of their overall squad, particularly Jurgen Klopp's bench, after they suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.
Saunders told talkSPORT: "Look at the [Liverpool] bench last night, and no disrespect to these young lads, he's got (Kevin) Stewart and (Ben) Woodburn on the bench.
"(Alberto) Moreno – who he's decided is not good enough. (Ragnar) Klavan, who he doesn't think is good enough. (Loris) Karius, who he doesn't think is good enough. And (Divock) Origi, who he doesn't think is good enough.
"That's his bench. That tells you everything. Have a look at Man City's bench, have a look at Man United's bench when they're bringing players on. He hasn't got enough players to play the full press for the full season."
