Hibernian striker Filipe Morais was fined £500 after admitting to a charge of assaulting doorman Robert Brown outside a casino in Edinburgh on September 26. Morais told the club's official website: "I am very sorry for all that happened and accept my punishment.

"I apologise to the supporters and everyone connected with Hibernian.

"I have had a good rapport with the supporters.

"However I accept that my behaviour was well below the standards expected by the club.

"I can only hope that people will understand that this was totally out of character and will not happen again."

Hibs chief executive Scott Lindsay said: "The club cannot condone this behaviour.

"Filipe accepts that what he did was wrong and was a bad example for the many thousands of young people who look up to football players.

"Filipe has apologised to the supporters and to the club.

"Now that the matter has been settled by the courts, Filipe will be dealt with through the club's own disciplinary procedure, the outcome of which will remain private between the club and player."
