Montreal Impact take Mexican defender Garcia

Montreal Impact have acquired defender Gienir Garcia from Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for the discovery rights to forward Etienne Barbara.

The Mexico U20 international joins the Impact from Mexican club Cruz Azul after he was originally selected by the Whitecaps in the first round, second overall, in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft. Barbara heads to Vancouver after he refused the Impact's initial contract offer a few weeks ago.

"We felt it was important to acquire Garcia because with his experience in Mexico, he could be a good player in MLS," said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch.
