Montreal Impact to face AC Milan in June

Montreal Impact and AC Milan will play an international friendly at the Olympic Stadium on June 2.

The Canadian club will also face Milan's Serie A rivals Fiorentina in late May at their home arena, Saputo Stadium.

It is a great development for the Impact who are expected to be granted the 19th licence to join MLS in 2012.

"It is with great pride that we offer these two matches to soccer enthusiasts and Impact fans," declared Impact President Joey Saputo. "These international games will be historic, in great part because of the fine reputation and level of play that will be presented. AC Milan is part of the select group of great international clubs which include Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid. With the success of the Champions Trophy as well as the Bordeaux and River Plate games in 2009, the Impact has won recognition on the international scene. There is no longer any doubt that Montreal is an outstanding market for international soccer events."

"We are very excited to have the opportunity to visit Montreal and to play a friendly against the Impact," said Umberto Gandini, Director of AC Milan. "There is a huge Italian community in Montreal and in Quebec, and we know there is a very active Milan AC supporters club, so we know we will feel at home in the Olympic Stadium. We are really grateful to Impact President Joey Saputo and his family for their tireless efforts in taking soccer to its highest level in Montreal. The presentation of this match proves this once again."
