Montreal Impact reps say Juventus captain Alessandro del Piero has his sights set on LA Galaxy or New York Red Bulls.

Montreal Impact have now ruled themselves out of the running.

"In January we contacted Del Piero, but the player turned us down," director of sport Nick De Santis told TMW.

"The player told us he prefers LA Galaxy or New York, so we took it on board and abandoned the option without coming back to it.

"There has been no further contact, so it's an old story. Of course, if he were to change his mind, then we certainly wouldn't slam the door in his face..."
