Montella: Roma job not dependent on winning Coppa Italia

AS Roma coach Vincenzo Montella doesn't believe his job relies on him winning the Coppa Italia.

Montella was drafted in when Claudio Ranieri resigned and has been fairly successful, but he rejected the suggestion a Coppa Italia success would see off other candidates for the job.

“I don’t think it would make that much of a difference. The work of a Coach is evaluated through many elements and not just a victory.

“As for our Serie A form, much has been said about the lads, but in my view we’ve had a good run since I took over. We wiped out a nine-point gap from Lazio and seven from Udinese.

“I think by fighting to the very end for both the Coppa Italia and Champions League qualification we can give some meaning to our season.

“Fourth place is still a viable objective and we have got to push all the way.”
