Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella was left frustrated with their 3-1 defeat to Sampdoria.
Angelo Palombo and Eder were among the goalscorers for Samp.
"If we look at the table, then it was a missed opportunity to go into third place. It's a shame, but the team did everything it could and have to push forward hoping luck turns our way," Montella told Sky Sport Italia.
"The pitch cannot be treated as an alibi, but obviously a field like that is going to be more damaging to a side that relies on technique and passing to feet.
"I still thought we could've taken home a result, as when it was 2-1 we didn't make the most of some great chances to equalise."
