Mono Burgos: Atletico Madrid produced heroic performance for Arsenal draw

Atletico Madrid assistant coach Mono Burgos hailed their "heroic" spirit for the 1-1 draw at Europa League opponents Arsenal.

Arsenal led through Alexandre Lacazette after Sime Vrsaljko was sent off just ten minutes in, but the hosts couldn't make their man advantage count and suffered a late Antoine Griezmann strike.

"Against a great team armed with a great coach, it was heroic," Mono stated on BeIN Sports. "The boys knew how to solve it."

Burgos went on to downplay Vrsaljko's early red card as one that was "not well received" on the visiting bench before assessing his leadership of the side once Diego Simeone had been sent to the stands.

"It was surprising," he admitted.

"But the entire coaching staff are trained to be ready when they have to be."

Jan Oblak and Antoine Griezmann were undoubtedly the stars of the show and the Rojiblancos assistant moved away from discussing the pair's future after the game in North London.

"I don't talk about things when we don't know if they are going to happen," Burgos contemplated.

"Now we have the game against Alaves and the semi-final. We are going to play each game as if it were a final, like today."
