Monk intent on signing new Swansea deal

Garry Monk says he is committed to helping Swansea City achieve great things in the coming years.

The 36-year old has guided the Swans to an eighth-place finish - their highest ever in the Premier League - and is now looking to sign a long-term deal with the Welsh outfit.

"I'm talking to the club about a new contract and those negotiations are well under way now," said Monk.

"We've had good initial talks and hopefully it can happen sooner rather than later.

"I'm very focused on Swansea and the transition I've done this season hasn't finished. I want to put my stamp on the club.

"I'm more than sure that with the conversations that have already gone on that we'll be able to sort out a contract over the next few days."

Despite losing 1-0 at Crystal Palace on the final day of the season, Swansea remained eighth with a club-record points tally of 56.
