Swansea City boss Garry Monk is using former club Southampton as inspiration.

Monk reckons Swansea can become the new Southampton.

The former Saints' defender said: "The reason I went to Southampton from Torquay was because of what the club was all about.

"I didn't want to go at first. All my mates were at home and I really didn't want to go.

"But my mum and dad said to me that I had a chance to go to a club who clearly has trust in its youth system.

"They said I would have a chance of playing in the first team.

"At somewhere like Arsenal, they couldn't have said that to me at that time.

"If we can have that influence on parents at Swansea, I think it's a big attraction for our club going forward."
