Monk happy Swansea can switch systems during games

Swansea City boss Garry Monk admits he likes his team to be capable of changing systems when needed.

He's had his team adopt a fluid approach, rather than relying on one style - a philosophy he calls "blind faith".

"I've played the so-called British-style," he told the Daily Star. "Very physical, very fit. The high-tempo side of it, the put your foot in.

"Then when Roberto (Martinez) came into Swansea we were very much more the continental approach.

"I feel really privileged that I've experienced it. But I have still got real traditional values and I try and put them into the modern way of playing, which is the way we want to play, possession football.

"That will always be my number one - there is no better way of paying. But those traditional values come in when it is not working.

"And when it hasn't gone to plan for whatever reason, you need to have that and the players have been very adaptable this season.

"There might be a five-minute period of pressure against us and we need to change.

"It might be need to not build up from the back and try to put pressure on them in their half and get the momentum back.

"I give them a clear game management before the game and then I communicate most with the captain (Ashley Williams) or (keeper) Lukasz Fabianski if I feel I need to change anything. It might be high press for 15 minutes, or a medium block or counter-attack.

"Hopefully we can improve it so they can recognise it themselves and change it themselves."
