Monaco's Berbatov: We deserved to beat Arsenal

Dimitar Berbatov has spoken about Monaco's brilliant performance against Arsenal on Wednesday night.

The French club surprised the Gunners with a 3-1 victory in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg at the Emirates Stadium in what was expected to be a comfortable win for the north Londoners.

However, Berbatov and his teammates were confident in their ability and the former Tottenham man was thrilled to land what could be a decisive result over his old arch enemies.

"Nobody expected that but we are confident in our ability, and we deserved to win," the Bulgarian striker, who scored Monaco's second goal, told Sky Sports.

"We scored our chances and in the end it's a great win for us.

"It's not over, we have one more game in Monaco and Arsenal are a dangerous team."

When asked why Monaco won, Berbatov produced a fairly straightforward response: "Because we are good.

"Arsenal are a good team but we wanted the win more than them. We were fighting all over the pitch, winning our challenges and scoring our goals."

And when quizzed on Monaco's chances in the return bout at the Stade Louis II on March 17, Berbatov made it clear that the Ligue 1 side were not getting too far ahead of themselves.

"I don't think like this because Arsenal is Arsenal. They have great players. We go in with a comfortable lead but in football anything can happen," he concluded.
