Tottenham face a battle to keep hold of on-loan Monaco striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.

The former Chelsea forward claimed at the weekend there was an agreement in place that would enable him to move to White Hart Lane permanently but his club Monaco insist Gudjohnsen will return to the Ligue 1 club when his deal ends.

A Monaco spokesman said: "We are pleased that Eidur is enjoying his time in England but we expect him to come back, we want him to.

"Monaco are not interested in negotiations for a permanent move and will ignore any bids. He has a future here."
