AS Monaco defender Eric Abidal says Barcelona made the right decision in releasing him this summer.

Abidal has backed away from previous comments hitting out at Barca management.

"I didn't feel let down by anyone because my contract was up. I understand and respect the club's decision. They told me it was a professional matter. After an illness like mine, it's hard to make decisions, but I think it was the best decision they could make."
