Moggi: I had Arsenal boss Wenger ready to sign for Juventus

Former Juventus sports chief Luciano Moggi says he came close to appointing Arsene Wenger as coach during his time in charge. Moggi revealed they decided on Fabio Capello ahead of the Arsenal manager when it came to the crunch.

Speculation is mounting that Juventus will make a coaching change in June after just one season with Gigi Del Neri at the helm.

"I believe that Gian Piero Gasperini and Antonio Conte are two good trainers, but they wouldn't suit Juventus right now because they would need a strong and compact club behind them and in this moment Juventus isn't one," Moggi said.

"If I were at Juventus, I would hire Guidolin with my eyes closed. He is a Coach who has done well wherever he has been - Vicenza, Bologna, Palermo, Parma… And now with Udinese who are doing something incredible. He is ready for a big club.

"Arsene Wenger was a step away from Juventus before Fabio Capello arrived. But we chose Capello because he is the greatest of all in that he doesn't just occupy himself with training, but also enters into the complete management of the team both from a recruitment point of view and in managing the dressing room."
