Modric says Spurs must top Champions League group

Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric hopes they can top their Champions League group.

Spurs are playing in their first-ever Champions League campaign but have secured a place in the knock-out stage with a game to spare following fine home victories against FC Twente, Werder Bremen and defending champions Inter Milan.

Harry Redknapp's men travel to Holland for their final Group A game against Twente on Tuesday knowing that victory would ensure they top the group ahead of Inter.

And Modric is eager that Tottenham continue their European adventure as group winners given they will be seeded for the round of 16 and would avoid most of Europe's big guns.

"We just need to carry on, to try to beat Twente because if you finish first in the group, you can have a better draw," the in-form midfielder told the club's official website.

"We know it's not easy, but it's important to try to finish first.

"It's been a great experience for us, the first time in the Champions League for a lot of the players.

"We are playing great football and everyone likes to watch us because we play to score more goals than our opponents and everyone enjoys that.

"We just go onto the pitch with confidence, big belief and I think that's one of the reasons why we're doing so well at the moment."
