MLS youngster Salgado loaned to Vancouver Whitecaps

MLS and Generation adidas youngster Omar Salgado has been loaned to USSF Division 2 club Vancouver Whitecaps.

socceramerica.com reports that the 16-year old will spend the remainder of the 2010 season with the Whitecaps who will join MLS next year.

Salgado left the Chivas Guadalajara youth academy to sign a Generation adidas contract with MLS and will enter the 2011 SuperDraft.

Todd Durbin, MLS' executive vice-president of competition and player relations said it was important for a player like Salgado to gain some sort of grounding before being thrust into the North American top flight.

"We are excited to sign Omar Salgado, a player with great potential who drew interest from several international clubs," said Durbin. "Whenever we sign young players, an important consideration is the timing of their transition to MLS. In Omar's case, the player's family, his representatives and the league agreed that joining an MLS club at the beginning of the season will give him the best opportunity to be successful long term."
