MLS have warned AC Milan that a move for LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham is no done deal. Ivan Gazidis, the deputy commissioner for the MLS, suggested the move would not happen until Beckham's paymasters at Galaxy and the MLS were comfortable with the arrangement.
"This could happen in principle," said Gazidis. "But it is not definitely going to happen. "There have been discussions but it has to be right not just for David but for LA Galaxy, too.
"The Galaxy owners have been kept in the loop on this but nothing has been decided yet.
"If it does go ahead, it will only be for two months because David will be expected to report back to Galaxy for pre-season training. He has a five-year agreement here and I'm sure that will continue."
The Beckham camp nevertheless remain confident that a two-month deal will be agreed and even Gazidis accepted it would benefit the MLS.
"It is fair to say that it is good for the MLS to have a high-profile player who is not only playing for England but i s wanted by a top European club," he said.
