Major League Soccer in 2011 has set new attendance records in the competition's 16th season.
The average attendance of 17,872 surpasses the previous best which occurred in the opening campaign in 1996 (17,406) and betters 2010 which saw an average of 16,675 fans walk through the turnstiles.
12 of the 16 returning MLS franchises (not including first-year clubs Vancouver and Portland) saw an increase in attendance on last year whilst Seattle Sounders again beat their own record for average attendances with a whopping 38,49, bettering 2010's previous high of 36,173.
The single biggest increase for a club went to Sporting Kansas City who easily topped last season's average of 10,287 to 17,810 on the back of their move from CommunityAmerica Ballpark to LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City.
