MLS scramble to replace Beckham with Chelsea icon Lampard

A move to MLS is likely for Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.

The Telegraph says Lampard's Chelsea career is almost at an end, with the London club apparently set on not offering him a new contract when his deal expires at the end of this season.

The MLS is an attractive option for both parties, assuming that the midfielder is resigned to his international days being numbered.

A player of his calibre and profile would be an obvious asset to the league, and he could expect to command a salary close to the circa £6 million-a-year he earns at Stamford Bridge.

While he is not a marketing phenomenon in the manner of David Beckham, he retains a high profile and would help promote the MLS globally as well as in the US.
