MLS prepare to offer Gerrard lucrative route out of Liverpool

Clubs across the globe are monitoring Steven Gerrard's contract talks with Liverpool. The People says the midfielder, who marked 16 "sensational" years at the club by sitting on the subs' bench for the first 75 minutes of Liverpool's 1-0 win over Stoke on Saturday, seems unsure whether staying on is the right move.

That has alerted a host of potential suitors around the world - with Manchester City and their sister club, MLS new boys New York City FC, already closely watching developments.

Those close to Gerrard think he was taken aback by the financial implications of the new contract, especially as he is still seen as the figurehead when it comes to servicing Liverpool's headline commercial sponsors.

Having turned down offers to join Chelsea, Gerrard is mulling over whether to commit himself to Liverpool for the rest of his playing days.
