MLS opt for Mexican takeaway

Major League Soccer (MLS) has announced that Chipotle Mexican Grill will be the official 'fast casual Mexican restaurant' of the MLS and 12 MLS clubs, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/. The sponsorship will see Chipotle work on promotional programmes with the 12 teams, individual players and across the league throughout the 2014 season.

The teams involved in the partnership are: FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy, Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders FC, San Jose Earthquakes, Philadelphia Union, Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew, New England Revolution and Chicago Fire.

The Mexican chain will also sponsor the inaugural Chipotle MLS Homegrown game. The game will take place during the AT&T MLS All-Star week to be held in Portland in August and feature top home grown players from MLS club rosters.

To celebrate the partnership Chipotle will run a promotion which will see the restaurant offer a buy-one-get-one-free deal to anyone wearing their local MLS club gear on the date of the team's first game of the season.

The partnership will also see Chipotle and the 12 MLS clubs offer free soccer clinics where MLS players and coaches will teach up to 200 children the basics of the game.

LA Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez will represent MLS as the first spokesperson of the partnership using his social media sites to promote the tie-up.
