MLS Commissioner Don Garber has reiterated the league's plan to have a second franchise in New York before too long.
There has been continuous talk in recent years about when New York Red Bull will be joined in North America's top flight with suggestions that a team in the Queens area will come to fruition by 2016.
Garber wants to dip soccer's toe into the saturated sports market in the city and he is confident another team in NY will soon be a reality.
"This will break through the clutter of this market of 12 professional sports teams," said Garber.
"There's a lot of work that needs to happen to finalize our agreement with New York City.
"I do believe that we will resolve that shortly. I can't put any timetable on that, but we are at the finish line."
