MLS Designated Players rule a win-win according to RSL's Beckerman

Real Salt Lake captain Kyle Beckerman feels the Designated Player experiment has worked wonders for Major League Soccer.

At first it appeared as though it was just a rule to allow David Beckham a clear path into North American soccer but the added positions on a clubs roster, free from the salary cap, has been a major plus in Beckerman's eyes.

"The biggest one was David Beckham," Beckerman told the Salt Lake Tribune. "Once that happened, it kind of exploded, and the whole world took notice of our league. And it definitely, I think, encouraged other players to do the same thing as him, and see what MLS was all about.

"It's good for our league, it's good for teams, it's good for young players, it's good for everybody. It's a win-win situation. If you can find one that fits in your team, then I don't see any reason why not to do it."
