MLS and Microsoft launch Windows 8 app

Major League Soccer (MLS) and Microsoft have struck a multi-year deal which will include the launch of a new app exclusively on Windows 8, reports SportsPro. The new MLS app will feature exclusive content, highlights, statistics and a range of match data. The partnership, which is intended to 'bring MLS fans the best and fastest soccer content through the power of Windows 8', also includes new in-stadium fan experiences powered by Windows 8.

The initiative, known as 'the smartest league', was launched at the Red Bull Arena in New York and will see Windows 8 and the MLS continue to launch new in-stadium and online features for fans.

"MLS supporters are young and active, and technology plays a central role in their lives," said Kathy Carter, president of Soccer United Marketing, MLS' commercial arm.

"This new partnership with Windows 8 will allow MLS fans to interact with best-in-class software, new devices and apps that will super-serve their fandom. This exciting partnership is another step in the process of becoming the world's smartest soccer league."

"Partnering with MLS, we are bringing the best technology experience through Windows 8 to players, coaches and fans across the league to deliver unique and immersive soccer experiences," added Kathleen Hall, general manager, Windows Marketing.

"As technology and sports continue to intersect, we look forward to continuing to provide innovative interactions for fans whether in the stadium or at home through Windows 8."
