MK Dons signing Hamann: Liverpool coaching not enough for me

New MK Dons signing Didi Hamann says he enjoyed his time coaching at Liverpool.

After a year away from football, Hamann is back after signing a one-year deal with League One outfit MK Dons as player-coach. After leaving City, he could have signed for ex-England boss Sven Goran Eriksson at League Two Notts County last season.

Eriksson was the big-name frontman as County, under their previous owners, tried to recruit top stars.

Sol Campbell signed up - and quit after one game.

Hamann said: "From the outside, it didn't look right to me. What happened proved that myself and others who didn't go were right. I'm glad I didn't go. It was a big bubble with obviously not much behind it.

"I spoke to Sven a few times. I would have liked to have carried on playing last season but I wasn't carrying on just for the sake of it. Things have to be right and it's the reason I am here at Milton Keynes.

"It's a very professional club with the new stadium, training facilities and gym. This is a club that wants get into the Championship as quickly as possible - and maybe into the Premier League one year.

"During the past year, I've done my coaching badges and quite a bit of coaching with the Liverpool academy, plus some TV work.

"But I missed playing. It's what I have done for more than 15 years. You watch games on a Saturday and you want to be involved. I didn't have any doubts about committing to Milton Keynes. I had a good feeling about this."
