James Milner expects to sign new terms with Manchester City.
The England midfielder is in the final year of his current deal and looked set to be heading out of the Etihad after admitting that he needed more minutes on the pitch.
Milner has got his wish - he is likely to start the Manchester derby - and is now ready to commit himself to a new long-term contract.
"I'd love to stay at City," said the 28-year-old. "That's the bottom line. "It's a no-brainer for me. I want to be here. I would love to sign a new contract.
"We are talking, but there hasn't been an actual contact offer yet.
"Obviously I'd like things to be sorted sooner rather than later, but I'm not putting a timescale on it.
"It's a busy period, so these things tend to take a bit of a back seat.
"At the moment, all I am thinking about is keeping my place in the team."
