Millwall's promotion hopes stutter with loss at Coventry

Coventry caretaker manager Andy Thorn was pleased with the performance in defeating Championship play-off chasers Millwall 2-1 at the Ricoh Arena. The visitor's substitute Neil Harris was then sent off for an off-the-ball incident which the host's capitalised upon.

Thorn said: "We knew it was going to be difficult because they're a good side.

"I have just said to the boys that we have had games against Watford, Portsmouth and Burnley who are all chasing promotion who are where I feel we should be.

"I think this group of players is the best group of players the club has had since we got relegated.

"They have got belief in themselves and if handled correctly and looked after, we can be as successful as everybody wants to be at this football club.

"They came and changed their shape to cope with us which is a compliment in itself which is nice. We will find hurdles everywhere we go at the moment.

"I really believe in this group of players. They are answering every question that we are throwing at them.

"We have had three wins, two draws and one defeat and I would have settled for that when I took charge. I think we have lifted everybody as well.

"It's important we gave everybody something to cheer about. I thought the supporters were really great today, they really got behind us and I am sure they will have enjoyed it even though it was a bit nail-biting at times."

Millwall chief Kenny Jackett blamed the number of players absent from his side as the reason for the defeat.

Jackett said: "Our front two were not playing today for different reasons, we lost our captain in the warm-up and I think it perhaps showed in the start.

"We were quite tentative in our play which is not like us. We gave a bad goal away which put us 1-0 down. We clawed our way back into the game with 11. Even with 10 we did very well.

"The players put on a good performance but right now it is a sense of frustration for me because it is an opportunity where we were unlucky today to get nothing out of the game whatsoever.

"We are four points off the play-offs with four games left and there is six points available in three days.

"I have got no complaints with the referee today. We have had two strikers sent off in two matches. I don't know what the reason was for it.

"I have not spoken to Neil at length but I am sure I will. These things happen. As a club we will come through it and there are opportunities for other people to fill those roles.

"I will be speaking to my chief executive to see if we have a recall on any of our strikers on loan although I think Ashley Grimes is currently suspended."
