Former Sydney FC and Newcastle Jets midfielder Mark Milligan was best on field on debut for Shanghai Shenhua. The 23-year olds performance in the 4-1 victory over Singapore Armed Forces Football Club on Wednesday was superb and he was rated in the Chinese media as a 'midfield maestro'.
This Wednesday night, Shanghai take on Kashima Antlers who were found wanting in the midfield by Suwon Bluewings in their opening ACL encounter and the opportunity for Milligan to take control of the match in the centre of the pitch should see the Chinese club notch up another three points.
According to sources close to the former Australian U23 captain, he has been performing exceptionally in training since he has been in China and has thrived in his new environment.
His attitude and overall turnaround in the past four months has been exceptional and it is a fantastic effort to stand out in Asia's most prestigious tournament in his first game for the club.
Milligan is feeling the fittest he ever has and has benefited from the professionalism of his new club which is said to have an edge over clubs in Australia's A-League.
It seems as though Milligan's career in Asia has begun with a bang and it will be great to see him continue on in this fashion.
