Miller at odds with Aberdeen boss McGhee over top three finish

Aberdeen director of football Willie Miller believes the Dons can finish in the SPL's top three this season unlike boss Mark McGhee, reports the Scottish Sun. McGhee had ruled that out after the board failed to secure the players he targeted.

But director of football Miller disagrees and feels the board have been unfairly criticised.

He said: "Mark is still in the early stages of rebuilding, which is perhaps why he said we could not finish third.

"But the squad was good enough to finish fourth last season and our realistic target must be the top half, be that third or fourth.

"We have been wrongly criticised for a supposed lack of transfer movement. Judging by some of the reaction you'd think we have hardly any players.

"But we have a squad of 25 in the first team and 20 at under-19.

"I can assure the fans we're working tirelessly to strengthen that further.

"We have had meetings with Mark to identify the type of player he wants.

"But we have to be realistic with the funds available.

"We won't sign a player just for the sake of looking good. We will only sign a player if he is right for the squad."
