Italian legend Franco Baresi believes football cannot lose Scottish giants Rangers.

Ahead of tonight's fundraising exhibition match between 'Gers legends and AC Milan greats, the former Rossoneri star says it is vital for things to be restored to normal at Ibrox after some tough times in the past few months.

"Football cannot afford to lose a club which draws 50,000 to every home game," Barsei said of the dire financial situation the Glasgow club finds itself in.

"What has happened is a shame. These fans are incredible and we must find a way back for them.

"So if we can contribute in a small way then we are happy to do it.

"I was surprised to hear what had happened to Rangers. It is sad for a club such as this. "It's not easy for anyone connected to them and that is why we are here - to make our contribution.

"Rangers have our best wishes and we hope they will find a solution so they can be competitive again."
