Mikel plays key role as Nigeria progress to Olympic quarter-finals

Chelsea star John Obi Mikel was in top form for the Nigeria U23 squad as he helped his country achieve a 1-0 victory over Sweden and progress to the Olympic Games quarter-finals.

The Nigeria captain played in an offensive role for his country and attempted several shots on goal as the African nation set up a potential class with hosts Brazil, who currently sit second on the Group A table.

AS Roma striker Sadiq Umar scored a diving header, six minutes from time, to claim Nigeria's second consecutive win in the games following their remarkable 5-4 victory over Japan in the opener.

Nigeria now have six points from two games and are guaranteed of top spot in Group B as they are four points clear of Colombia who they play in Sao Paulo on Wednesday.
