Mike Phelan is set to be confirmed as Hull City manager next week.
The Sun says the 53-year-old has been in temporary charge since Steve Bruce quit the Tigers two months ago.
Sir Alex Ferguson's former No2 at Manchester United has now clinched the full-time position after guiding Hull to two victories from their opening three Premier League matches.
Phelan held talks over his future with outgoing co-owner Ehab Allam on Thursday, and discussions over his deal will continue over the weekend.
The club have just been bought by a Chinese consortium for £100m, but the new ownership will not affect Phelan's position.
