Mike Petke is a New York guy says Arsenal great Henry

New York Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke is without doubt the right man for the job according to Thierry Henry.

The Red Bulls are sitting second on the Eastern Conference table following a poor beginning to the season and Henry indicated that part of that turnaround was down to Petke being a committed New York man.

"You can see Mike is very passionate about the club," he told the Star-Ledger.

"He's a New York guy. He's a Red Bulls guy. He's been with this franchise forever. You know he wants this team to do well."

And Henry's words were echoed when Petke explained why he never left America when he could have played for FC Kasierslautern and why he came back to the Red Bulls after stints with DC United and Colorado Rapids.

"At the end of the day, it wasn't about the money," Petke said. "I wanted to be in New York.

"This is where I'm from. This is where I was drafted. For me, being in Germany or Philadelphia or D.C. is the same thing - it's not New York."
