Mike Pejic urges Stoke to go for Tottenham striker Defoe

Former Stoke City and England fullback Mike Pejic is urging the Potters to move for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe in January.

Pejic wrote in The Sentinel: "We need a goalscorer, everyone is agreed on that, and Jermain Defoe is the obvious answer for me.

"I'm not pretending it will be easy or cheap to get him from Spurs, but sometimes you must reach for the stars.

"Yes, he's 31, but he would also come with experience, know-how and pedigree.

"You would have to offer him a lucrative two-and-a-half year contract, but it could be money well spent.

"However much Defoe would cost, relegation would cost a lot more."
