Real Madrid sports chief Predrag Mijatovic insists Villarreal midfielder Santi Cazorla did not turn them down.

Mijatovic admits they identified Cazorla as a replacement for Robinho, following his move to Manchester City, and said: "Bernd Schuster and I talked about him for a day at the Sports City.

"We saw that we could pay his buyout clause, then gave all the information to the president (Ramon Calderon).

"But he told us that he would not take hostile action against a club and so stopped everything."
