Mignolet wants ‘magic in the air’ at Anfield as Liverpool eye Villarreal comeback

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has called for a magical atmosphere at Anfield when the Merseyside club host Villarreal in the Europa League next week.

The Reds were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Villarreal in the semi-final first leg at El Madrigal on Thursday night but Mignolet is holding hope that a passionate home crowd can get he and his teammates over the line in the return bout.

"It was a very tactical game," Mignolet said.

"They were tough to break down.

"Unluckily it didn't happen but it's still there to play for and with the supporters behind us at Anfield there's always some magic in the air."

Liverpool were unlucky not to score during the contest when Joe Allen fired an early effort straight at Villarreal keeper Andres Sergio Asenjo before Roberto Firmino has a second-half snapshot turned onto the upright by the home gloveman before Adrian Lopez won it when slotting home a clever cut-back from Denis Suarez in injury-time.
