Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet says the players only have themselves to blame for their lowly table position.

Mignolet insists injuries are no excuse.

Mignolet said: "How have we got ourselves in this position? That's an easy question to answer. We have lost too many games.

"When you don't win your own games the team below will get closer. That's how life is. That's logical, really.

"What we need to do is look at out own games coming up, make sure that we get points from them and have a good end to the season. If you look at the personalities we have around this football club, you will know none of us wants to be in this position - and we did think beforehand we would be higher up the table."
