Mignolet ready to fight for place at Sunderland

Simon Mignolet has no problem fighting for his place at new club Sunderland.

When he reports for pre-season training early next month, Steve Bruce's second signing of the summer will be pitched into a four-way goalkeeping battle.

Marton Fulop and Trevor Carson are also on the books backing up last season's number one, Craig Gordon.

And Mignolet - who is an imposing physical presence at 6'4" - has no problem with fighting it out with his counterparts for a place.

He told SAFC-TV: "Competition is normal when you come to the Premier League. It is something you have to have in professional football.

"Of course I have to compete with other players and by doing that I will only get better.

"I am aware I'm only 22 and have a lot to learn. I think I can learn and progress in the time I am here."
