Simon Mignolet is ready to battle it out with new goalkeeper Loris Karius for his starting spot at Liverpool.

The Belgian has received some stern competition in the form of 22-year-old German Karius who recently joined the Reds from Mainz for £4.7million.

However, Mignolet will not shy away from the challenge as he strives to keep the Anfield gloves firmly on his own hands.

"It's something positive and can only push you on and make you better," the 28-year-old told Sky Sports News HQ.

"Competition for places, you'll always have it at the highest level and it's something that is really good in this team.

"For every place and every position, there's more than enough people who can do the job when needed and that's what you need to have a good team."
