Midtjylland’s Reid delighted with New Zealand switch

FC Midtjylland defender Winston Reid is delighted he made the decision to switch his allegiances back to New Zealand.

The Auckland-born 21-year old moved to Denmark at age 10 and has played with the Danish Superliga club since 2005 as well as representing the nation at U19, U20 & U21 levels.

But recently, Reid committed his football allegiance to his native country and is excited about the prospect of heading to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa later this year.

"I have not made this decision to play in the World Cup finals but followed my heart and it just feels absolutely right now that I've made the choice,” Reid told Danish newspaper BT.

"I have been happy in the Danish age-group set-up but I have lived in New Zealand until I was 10 or 11, almost my entire family lives there and I go home every year, so it feels just right."

Under FIFA rules, Reid is eligible to represent the All Whites because he did not play for Denmark at senior level.
