D.C. United announced today the club has signed midfielder Stephen King to a new contract. Since joining United in April of 2010, King has been one of the club's most reliable contributors.
The central midfielder has played 31 MLS matches for the Black-and-Red (22 starts), registering one goal and one assist in 1,930 minutes of action. Per club and League policy, specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Stephen is a player whose strong work ethic and commitment is on display each and every day at this club," said General Manager Dave Kasper. "He has been a steady performer for us the past two seasons, and we are thrilled to have reached a new deal to keep him at D.C. United."
In his second season with the Black-and-Red, King has started six of the eleven matches he has played, registering one goal in 515 minutes of action. King scored his first goal for D.C. United during the club's 4-0 victory against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on August 13.
