Middlesbrough defender David Wheater has no regrets not making the field for England in this summer's friendly against Trinidad & Tobago.

Wheater told the Evening Gazette: "The manager told me it was a good thing that I didn't get on in the England game because it gives me something to aim for.

"So getting back in the England squad and doing well for Boro is the plan next season."
