Middlesbrough's Southgate raps Newcastle fans for Mido abuse

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate was unhappy with the abuse suffered by Mido at the hands of Newcastle away fans during yesterday's 2-2 draw.

He said: "We had to get him to calm down a bit in the first half after the goal - he got booked.

"I always find it strange that 3,000 people are allowed to abuse one person and nothing is done, and then when the boot is on the other foot, he gets into trouble.

"In terms of civil liberties, I find that a strange situation."

Meanwhile, Southgate revealed striker Jeremie Aliadiere was knocked unconscious by a clash with Steven Taylor which he did not remember when he came around.

Mido believed Middlesbrough showed a lot of character to claim a point.

The Egyptian told Setanta 1: "I think we could have won the game but to come back twice from losing the game shows a lot of character and how this team is growing. We have a future here.

"When you lose your first two games it makes it a little bit doubtful for people.

"But we never had doubt, we know we have good people in the team."
