Gaizka Mendieta has slammed his former Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren.

Reacting to McClaren's England sacking, Mendieta told El Pais: "I don't know what qualities they saw in McClaren.

"I realised it at Middlesbrough and now I have had it confirmed. Him being named as England manager was a big surprise for me. What talents do they think he has?"
