Middlesbrough striker Afonso Alves has missed Brazil's Olympics selection.

It was claimed that the 27-year-old was among the overage players in the list submitted to the organisers in Beijing earlier this week.

The reports said Boro faced being without their record signing for the first three games of the new season.

In fact Alves is not among the list, which includes Robinho, Adriano and Gilberto Silva.
