Jonathan Woodgate has likened young Middlesbrough defender David Wheater to Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic.

Woody told the Evening Gazette: "I thought David was outstanding against Fulham at the end of last season, and he has got better and better.

"We've had a few injuries and he has taken his chance. He's been one of our best players up to now.

"One thing that you get from David is a real threat in the opposition penalty area from set pieces. He's brilliant in their box as well as ours.

"It's like Vidic at Man United. It's great when you have someone in your team who can do that."
